Extreme Outlaw Rides

Welcome to Extreme Outlaw Rides. We organize several back country horse riding "vacation" trips. I'm not talkin about a normal "trail" ride. We take you back in time to the days of The Outlaw. We ride where the Outlaws Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid rode. We go through the same canyons that have been written about in the outlaw journals. Enjoy lunch at outlaw spring where Butch and Sundance themselves hid out from the posse. Explore a side canyon and let your imagination tell you what might have happened there. Enjoy a relaxing night around our Outlaw campfire after a delicious catered dutch oven dinner.

Once the outlaws reached Horseshoe Canyon they simply slipped off a couple of ledges that the posse horses could not or would not jump off of and they outlaws got away again! We have trained our horses to jump off of these sandstone ledges so that we can experience and access this extreme back country riding. You wont need to ride off a 8' cliff to ride with us. We ride through the main canyons which are very accessible for all riding levels. Prepare yourself for some of the most extreme yet beautiful canyon country in the world.

This is what is known as "Butch's Round Pen" Stories tell that this corral was constructed by the outlaws to break the wild horses. You cant see it in the picture, there is a "wing" of fence that continues around in order to funnel the horses into the roundpen. This fencing is an amazing site to see. The trees were gathered from near by and laced together. As the old timers said when building a fence, "hog tight and horse high" this fence would hold any hog or horse without any trouble still today. This is one of our stopping points during our ride. It is quite an amazing experience to ride inside the round pen. Let your imagination run wild as you walk your horse around this majestic location. From inside the corral you can see a huge  pinnacle to the west that serves as a landmark for us outlaw riders to find this place. Now I have been hear several times and each time without the huge sandstone pinnacle I wonder if I could find this ancient corral.

This is another way that the outlaws could get away from the posse.

Here we ran onto a bobcat during our ride. The cat was ledged up on this high sandstone cliff.  There are also wild burros, wild cows and some mule deer in the area. While riding into the canyon we come across a very fresh mountain lion track. You never know what wild life you will run into out here.

This is a true outlaw jump here! Look close as rider Cory Harris of Diamond Valley Utah jumps his horse Thunder off of a 7' rock!! Yes that's right a 7' jump. This is exactly how the outlaws would get away from the posse. All the outlaws needed was a canyon wall that dropped off into the river bed below. Now the outlaws trained their horses to make these jumps while most of the posse riders were "weekend warriors" mostly local farmers that were recruited by the sheriff to chase the outlaws. The farmers horses were trained to "farm work" not jump off a 7' cliff! Look close at the picture and you can see that Cory is jumping no handed!

No you don't need to be able to jump off a rock to ride with us, however it is quite a rush! It requires a bit of training to get your horse to accomplish such a jump. Matter of fact the only requirement that we have of you to ride with us is the ability to have one heck of a great time. If you are incapable of having a good time please stay home!
